Walk Grades |
The following may serve to explain the grading system.
Please bear in mind, however, that any grading will always be subjective and
open to interpretation
The Easy/Moderate and Intermediate grades (M and I) should be within the capability
of all members.
|
Easy / Moderate (M) |
Walks where the terrain is generally undemanding and the total ascent would be less than 3000 feet. The walk might take 6-7 hrs for a member of modest ability. Time is allowed to enjoy oneself! |
|
Intermediate (I) : |
Walks a little harder than moderate, and probably at a faster pace depending on the party. The ascent will almost certainly be over 3000 feet but less than 4000. Walks may be graded intermediate or M/I even if the distance is quite modest if rough terrain and /or very steep but short ascents are included. |
|
Strenuous (S) : |
Walks that are either very long or else involve 3 - 5 climbs during the day. Rough terrain possibly involving some scrambling may be encountered. Walks might take 7-10 hrs to complete depending on conditions, distance and the party. A high level of fitness required on the longer distances. The easier strenuous walks may be shown I/S. |
|
Very Strenuous (VS) |
Walks of an arduous and serious nature requiring a high level of fitness and stamina. Long in duration. e.g. South Wales Marathon and the Welsh 3000s. PRIOR CONTACT WITH THE LEADER ESSENTIAL. |
